Reception

Please find on this page some activities we would like the children to work through during the time they are spending at home to consolidate and keep their learning moving on.

Prime Areas of learning in EYFS

Personal Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development

We have compiled a list of activities and ideas of things you might like to do at home with your child or as a whole family. It is so important that we continue to develop their children's skills in these areas whilst they are off school. These include activities which encourage turn taking, problem solving, language skills and keeping active.

Please also see the Early Years Home Learning Collection at the bottom of this page which has activities to develop all areas of learning.

Specific Areas of learning in EYFS

Literacy/Phonics - We have included some activities to ensure children consolidate their phonics learning at home, both reading and writing. I know phonics is often a foreign concept to parents so the 'Recommended Apps and Websites' document on this page has links to websites which might help as well as phonics apps. The children have learnt all of Phase 2 single letter sounds and are now focusing on consolidating Phase 3 digraphs.

We would also like you to continue to listen to your child read and share stories as much as possible, to develop their accuracy, fluency and comprehension.  Questioning the children on what they have read, what has happened and what they predict may happen will also be helpful for their understanding.

Mathematics - we have developed an advent style calendar of activity suggestions for each day whilst the children are off school. We have tried to ensure that activities can be carried out at home with minimal resources. These activities include number, shape, space and measure.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support at this unprecedented time.  We hope to see everyone back into school as soon as possible.

Good luck and keep safe and well.
