We Love Reading

At Nettleham Infant and Nursery School we believe that reading for pleasure is so important. We want to build a school where adults and children want to share stories and a love of reading. We want to develop a rich vocabulary and a thirst for more.

There is overwhelming evidence that literacy has a significant relationship to peoples life chances. Reading for pleasure is more important than either wealth or social class as an indicator of school success.

If your child isn't a 'book worm'  yet, don't worry! There are so many wonderful and exciting authors out there, that there's a book to engage and inspire your child out there . . they just haven't discovered it yet!

In school we will be continuing to inspire reading by sharing lots of exciting authors, old and new. All our staff share our passion for reading and story time is planned into our daily routine every day.

We are currently updating our books in school and we have compiled a wishlist of high-quality fiction and non-fiction books which are directly linked to Talk 4 Writing which is having an enormous impact on the children’s story telling and vocabulary choices in their writing. Any book donation, big or small will be hugely appreciated!

How does it work?

Simply go to our school Amazon wishlist, add any books you would like to donate to school to your basket, and they will be sent straight to us once you have bought them! Alternatively, if you wish to purchase a book from the list from a local book shop and bring it in to school that would be wonderful too.

If you are looking for some new books to try at home here are some suggestions  . . .

We are even helping the scarecrow love reading!
